Facts And Myths About Dave Renne Renewables

By Roseann Hudson

One of the most notable scientists said in one of his theories that intelligent beings have the tendency to eventually bring their own demise. That hits home for us mankind who have traded the health of the environment for the sake of development and progress. Somehow it is paradoxical that although we are seeking ways to help protect and resuscitate our already diminishing environment, we are still obliviously contributing to its death.

We have long realized that abusing our resources might lead to the ultimate nightmare of the modern man, the recipe for dystopia, the fall of the power grid. Thus we demonized non renewable energy and joined the bandwagon in supporting Dave Renne renewables such as solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, and hydroelectric. But all these resources have more or less equal footing when it comes to environmental damage, believe it or not.

Renewables deceive us into thinking we finally have the solution, because these resources are truly renewable. On the surface, that is. Sustainable resources are owned by hedgefund companies that are under big oil companies, and it is merely an illusion created to generate more money as they are more expensive, but they do still rely on non sustainable stuff. In effect, we are not hitting two birds in one stone here, but we are hitting one bird with two stones.

We know that fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum, and natural gas are known as non sustainable sources. Burning them pollutes the atmosphere and disrupts the balance of carbon in the earth, air, and ocean because they release carbon dioxide and disturbs the greenhouse effect. Oil spills are also blamed on faulty oil drilling machinery. But all these hazards are also almost equal to the disadvantages of sustainable energy.

The sun is giving us four billion years of sustainability when we use its sunlight in order to plug and play our conveniences. But solar panels are made of photovoltaic ingredients that need coal in order to be created. Furthermore, making these panels result in the emission of even more dangerous gases, namely nitrogen triflouride, sulfur hexaflouride, and hexaflourethane.

You cannot also say that the geothermal energy is the lesser evil when compared to fossil fuels. It relies on water, and again, water is in short supply. It has also destroyed wildlife habitat and rainforests.

Perhaps you are thinking how the Danes pulled off the alleged goodness of windpower. It is true that their CO2 emissions are flat. It is also because their population growth is close to zero. By the way, turbines are created from rare earth metals that are extracted through hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and sodium hydroxide, which contaminate water. Coal is also used to make those turbines.

Biomass was thought to be a win win method. But the expansion of energy crops resulted in having less land for wildlife habitat. Like geothermal plants, biomass also leads to deforestation and air pollution. Hydropower uses tidal fuel from oceans, thus they also ruin marine life and habitats.

You might think this is a very dire situation as it turns out that it seems that all energy resources kill Mother Nature. But there is still hope in the form of energy efficiency and conservation. So the next time Earth Day comes around, remember why we need to turn off the lights.
