Developing Strong Values As A Short Term Volunteer Africa

By Carl Meyer

Volunteering can do so much for you, emotionally. It can lift your spirit, and you will feel so much better about yourself. Many people see this as a duty or their good deed. But in the end, they become drawn to what they are doing that it becomes a lifelong commitment. It doesn't have to take over your life. A short term volunteer Africa, for example can be something to consider.

It is extremely beautiful in places like Mozambique, South Africa, Namibia, Malawi and Tanzania. There are so many more beautiful and inspiring places that one can volunteer. These days, families have been volunteering together because they find that it is important to create strong values within their kids.

When you take on one of these projects, it makes you think about so many other things in your life. You begin to think about what is really important. You will develop values and morals which you may not have had before. You may have been more materialistic before. However, when you have an experience like this, it will teach you more about how to live your life without a lot of money.

There are other things that take the place of money. You will begin to focus on relationships and activities, rather than technology in the form of television and computers. You will read books and play sport. You will learn how important it is to spend time with the family. Your friends and family will notice the change.

A high school student will also benefit by volunteering in one of these countries. They may be thinking of having good times in college. They may also be stressed about their future. By volunteering like this, it will just make them think how lucky they are. It will make them realize that throwing your life away is not the answer.

They will learn to cope with a lot of challenges that they don't face at school or in the home environment. They will mix with other kids who are underprivileged and don't have computers or video games. It will be a time where they can appreciate their company. They will play soccer and get to know more about the culture.

People in Africa are friendly. They may be poverty stricken and underprivileged, but they don't feel sorry for themselves. They will welcome you with open arms. In some places you will feel that you are in paradise. There are many tropical Islands and hideouts that are extremely beautiful.

You can become really angry when you don't have a car for two days. However, you will find that when you stay with your host family that you have to walk for a day in order to get your provisions. You will notice how spoiled you have become and you will begin to learn so much from the people that you are volunteering for. Most people will be so grateful for what you are doing for them, and this obviously makes a big difference. They will give a lot back to you by showing you around the area. This part of the world is usually beautiful so it is also like having a vacation at the same time.
