Discovering When Your Child Needs Help With College Admissions

By Elizabeth Powell

It is everyone's desire to have a child that has gone through his academic pursuits up to college level. Men and women pray that before they die, their children should at least be in college if not graduated. They hope for this because they want to hand over some responsibilities to them. They also wish that their child should be done with education so that they can get married, have children and make them grandparents. For all these things to happen, you may need help with college admissions when your child is just about to enter this phase of life.

As a first-year student in the new environment, all may not be rosy. Your child may find it difficult to survive if he is not used adapting to a new environment. That is why before this time, it is important to allow him or her to visit uncles, aunts and other relations so that they can adapt to other environments that are different from home.

You should also be confident that your child can stay independently. If he is not mature enough to decide appropriately on issues, it may not yet be his time to leave your care. Otherwise, he may rush into bad friends in a bid to find help in doing some of the things which he should have been able to handle alone. If you are not sure he can tell his right from his left, do not go about seeking help for admission.

Nevertheless, he should be past the age of bed wetting. Some people stop this much later than many others but your child won't find it funny in school if he wets his bed to the point that it affects others. They will call him names and this will make him feel bad. If it affects him too much, he will perform poorly in school.

Before bidding him farewell, be certain that he can undertake some tasks. For instance, he should be able to go to the market, sweep his environment, and wash the bathroom and toilet. At this age, nobody expects to see that he cannot perform all of these so you may want to save him from the embarrassments it will cause him by keeping him at home for one more year so that he can learn.

If your child wants to be an engineer or an accountant, you should be sure that he is good at mathematics. You may have to assess his performances before this stage and to see if he is good enough to handle college courses. His entrance examination should have been easy for him and there is no need to push further if he is not a reader of books.

If your child is excited about leaving home for school, it means he has attained a level of maturity and will be happy in school. This should give you some joy and a reason to continue looking for help with admission. You may want to know what his friends are also up to by contacting their parents.

Finding help for the entire period is important especially if has become paramount for your child to start school the next academic session. This might be the case if someone has promised to sponsor him. Getting the admission late can deprive him of this benefit.
