Getting Involved With Authentic Spanish Language And Culture

By Kenneth Williams

If you love learning languages and want to try to get the hang of a new one as soon as possible, you should find other people who enjoy doing the same thing. By looking into authentic Spanish language and culture, you can pick up the language without breaking the bank. You might even very well make some great new friends in the process.

Visiting a local restaurant is one way to become immersed in the culture. Instead of visiting an American fast food restaurant that is not very authentic, choose an establishment that offers homemade burritos or tacos. The goal is bond with others over food so that you get to know each other. Some restaurants serve margaritas during the evening hours.

You might also try doing a little traveling, especially if you have never left your home country. There are a number of lovely beaches in Mexico that would be great to check out. If you like history and museums, traveling to Mexico City would be the way to go. The capital city has plenty of attractions for adults and youngsters alike.

Spain is a different beast altogether but offers gems all its own. The country offers hiking opportunities and big cities to explore. Whether you are interested in visiting Madrid or Barcelona, you will surely find a great travel deal if you go during certain times of the year. You'll be pleased that you also get to practice your Spanish while you are walking around.

Consider making your travel arrangements carefully, and pick a hotel that you will want to stay in for a week or so. When you have a nice hotel that is beautiful and clean, you'll have a much nicer stay. Some hotels in Spanish-speaking countries have bars where you can have a cocktail after you've been out exploring for the day.

Make heavy use of public transportation systems, which will always be your friend in large foreign cities. You can hop on the subway and reach almost all of the city's biggest attractions. This is especially true in Madrid and Mexico City, where there is plenty to see. Hotel clerks can tell you which subway are the fastest and the most reliable.

Though language learning may see hard at first, you can make progress by sticking to your guns even when you're a little frustrated. You can always break through your current plateau by striking up conversations with people and learning more vocabulary. Picking up new words, especially verbs, will help you in the long run.

If you're ultimately looking for authenticity, make it a point to get outside your comfort zone and do what you can to make contact with other people who love the culture. You'll make friends that will last you for the rest of your life and that will make you more confident in yourself as a person.
