UMN Housing Off Campus With Its Pros And Cons

By Della Monroe

In order for a student to reach their dream, they have to enroll in a school which could give good education appropriate to the degree program they love. Aside from that, they have to ready themselves for the challenges that will come their way. Perhaps, one of the challenges they will encounter is finding the right house for them.

Almost all the universities provide dormitories to their students. But did you know there are students who dont grab this great opportunity and may start creating their type of second home. They definitely prefer the UMN housing off campus because they could stay outside the university premises but still stay altogether with all their dear friends.

But before you totally come up with your final decision in staying outside the university apartment, you need to consider all the pros and cons that you can possibly get. Staying outside the university premises can be a financial burden for you due to the several expenses you have to pay. While staying inside the school makes everything literally near you. Because of these, below are several pros and cons of staying out the school.

First, let us talk about the advantages. As what was mentioned earlier, it gives you so much freedom. You do not need to strictly follow any rules or restrictions like the ones commonly experience inside the school. Thus, you could do everything that you want like studying in a coffee shop in the middle of the night or go shopping around the malls in the city.

Also, you got the freedom to design and style your very own apartment. Paint your room with your favorite color just like you had in your bedroom at home. Plus, you get a certain kind of peace as you do your projects and assignments because you dont stay in a noisy dormitory. You could cook whatever meal you want to cook for yourself than depending with the foods served in the canteen. Let your parents visit you every time they like.

You can definitely select your room. You could have the smaller one just for you alone. You could also have the bigger one to stay with your dear friends. There are school organizations which rented an entire house all for their own. Thus, all of these are about the income preferences of each of your roommates.

First of the disadvantage is the cost of your apartment. Yes, there is a great possibility that you will end up renting an apartment which could be costly on your part. Remember, renting outside the school is not covered with your scholarship. You will definitely have to allot a big budget for your rent and a small budget for yourself. Thus, only choose what you can afford.

You need to take some time in cleaning your apartment which could compromise your studies, you need to shop for food and purchase some more groceries. On the other hand, you might be encouraged to purchase a car so you will get an ease when travelling for school. But purchasing one means another budget for gas and its maintenance.

There is the electricity bill, water bill, internet bill, pest control bill, trash pic up bill, phone service bill, and many more bills. All of these are never free. You also have to consider the safety of your environment and if there are any surveillance system and guards around the apartment building.
