Some Of The Beliefs Of Catholic Fundamentalism

By Enid Hinton

The catholic church has indeed been one of the biggest sources of power and influence all over the world even up until today. For many years the church has been practicing catholic fundamentalism until recently since the election of Pope Francis and the new teachings that he has been introducing to the public. Here is a short background on the fundamentals of the original catholic belief.

Now the fundamental beliefs that the church followed for the longest time are the beliefs that stemmed out during the golden age of catholicism. This was the time wherein the crusades won the Holy war and where cathedrals were built. The Pope that ruled over the church during this time was Pope Innocent III and he was known to be the Pope that had the most power in the entire history.

Now what the fundamentalists believe is that everything that was made during the golden age is already absolute and should not be changed. The reason as to why they believe this is because they view this age as the time wherein the doctrines and the scriptures have already been interpreted correctly and properly. It is because of this that they do not want to change anything anymore.

Now ever since the time of the golden age, the church has been interpreting the Bible word for word which means that everything that is written there is absolute. So if a certain rule is written in the Bible, then everyone has to follow it without question. If something is not written in the Word, then it is not Godly.

Now fundamentalists are also known to reject rationalism and some scientific discoveries of rationalists. In fact, many fundamentalists actually do not see eye to eye with many great scientists like Newton, Einstein, and even Galileo because they believe that knowledge is not discovered but given. Rationalists on the other hand, believe that the truths of the earth are to be discovered and seen by the eyes.

In fact, they also shun such other secular social issues such as women rights, homosexuality, and divorce among others. They believe that these issues should not even be allowed to exist at all. They believe that these acts are against the Bible and that those who engage in these issues are not obeying God.

Another thing that they believe in is that in order to be saved, one has to first undergo an emotional repentance. If there is no emotional outbreak during repentance, then that person has not been saved yet. They believe that being born again means being touched by the spirit of God and is supposed to be a very emotional and spiritual process.

For many years the church has been following certain fundamental doctrines and teachings that have not changed in many years. They are only slowly changing because of the new Pope that has come into power. However there are still many fundamentalists who do not want to adapt to the changing times because they believe the truth cannot be changed and that whatever is in the Scriptures are already absolute because every word inside the Bible directly comes from the mouth of God.
