A Brief Review Of Wind Energy Equipment

By Marie Jones

When it comes to creating mechanical power, there are very few ways in which to do so. In one case, this type of power can be created by using Wind Energy Equipment. For, this type of power can be harvested using windmills and turbines. After which, the mechanical power provided by these units can be used for a number of operations that would otherwise need electricity.

Hydro-power plants, solar farms, wave technology, turbines and windmills can all provide enough power to power buses, homes, schools, transportation systems and businesses. While this is the case, it seems the world is set on using so-called clean coal and fossil fuels rather than investing in clean energy. Whereas, there are some colleges such as Humboldt State University which strive to operate on as much clean energy as possible.

Solar farms, solar panels and wind are often the most well known forms of alternative power. While rarely labeled as such, wind is part and parcel to solar power. For, it is formed when the sun heats up the atmosphere and disturbs the earth's rotation, thus resulting in differing wind patterns.

In the process, windmills and turbines can then harvest the wind and create mechanical power. After which, the power can be used to operate equipment which might otherwise need electricity, or create electricity through the use of a generator. In either case, businesses, companies, farms, schools and individuals can save a great deal of money in the process.

In many cases, businesses, companies and schools have generators which can produce enough power for operations. For example, Humboldt State University in Arcata, California and nearby Blue Lake Casino in Blue Lake California both use alternative power sources. In the case of the university, a combination of clean energy resources are used to power the campus. Whereas, the casino has been able to use turbines to power a hotel, gas station and casino on an ongoing basis for years.

While this is the case, these turbines are now classified in two categories. While somewhat different in design than traditional turbines, windmills fall into this category. Whereas, the other being the egg-beater style turbines found on the top of many homes, schools and businesses.

As there are different size turbines, it can often pay to research the size and strength needed before making a purchase. For, generally the volume of power provided by these units is based on shape and size. As such, while a business may need a large turbine, a windmill and generator can often generate enough electricity for an apartment or home.

It is important that before purchasing any of this type equipment, the purchaser investigate weather patterns. For, whether using a windmill or turbine, there needs to be an average speed of 13 miles per hour. Otherwise, it can often be difficult to harvest enough wind to create mechanical power.
