The Easiest Way To Get NCCCO Certification

By Jocelyn Davidson

Crane operators with more knowledge on safety are marketable and earn comparatively higher salaries. NCCCO certification equips you with additional skills beyond driving the machine. It prepares you for a more secure and exciting career in the general and construction industries. The type of machine determines the area of specialization during training. Safety depends on the environment in which you will be operating.

Safety concerns during training target the operating personnel, goods being lifted and equipment lifting the commodities. Operators are made aware of the safety of other employees within the facility. This awareness reduces the possibility of ignorant actions that are likely to jeopardize the safety of those within the environment. Safe environments lead to profitable businesses and a more productive workforce.

Operators of mobile, service, tower and boom cranes or trucks are the targets of the course. There are slight variations in operating digger derrick, overhead and articulate crane models. Other personnel involved in the lifting environment are riggers, directors, signal officers and inspectors. They are provided with a special package.

Every graduate must complete coursework in one core area and another chosen area of specialization. The examinations come as 90 questions with multiple choices. The duration allowed to complete the paper is ninety minutes. The examination covers such areas as crane safety and general operation.

The specialty examination is complete in 60 minutes and comprises of 26 questions. The questions come with multiple choices. The areas covered include operating telescopic and lattice boom cranes. Each crane series requires a different approach to guarantee safety during operation. There are modules on crawler and swing models as well.

A certificate is only issued once the student completes the core and specialization examinations. The two examinations are offered as sit-in papers and practical tests. They cover fixed and swing crane operations and safety. The certificate will remain relevant for a period of five years before renewal. Learning and examination preparation materials are obtained from training institutions and exam centers.

The tests and examinations are only valid if they are completed within 12 months. The most important is the core paper after which the specialization exam should not be undertaken twelve months later. The examinations that are included in your certificate must have been completed within twelve months of finishing the core paper.

Certificates are only awarded if the criterion set by the NCCCO statutes is met. It goes beyond completing the examinations to state that the candidate must be 18 years and above. He must be medically and physically fit to carry out the tasks demanded of this role. It is mandatory for the candidate to undergo drug and substance abuse tests before receiving the certificate.

A code of ethics is also set for the operators. Beyond the examinations, the code requires adherence to rules governing the crane and lifting environment. Trained operators ensure that the working environment is safe. This means reduced operation cost and comfort during work.

The NCCCO has also set physical requirements for candidates. There is a physical condition form that is valid for three months. It may be replaced by the medical examiner certificate provided by the Department of Transport. It indicates your physical condition. The certificate must not be more than two years old.
