Having the right manners and a good behavior is an aspect that is highly desired by many people. Politeness is one of the virtues that is advocated for and observed especially in the American society. It is very bad for you to behave in a rude manner either in public places or in interpersonal interactions. People with polite behavior in America find it easy to get along with their counterparts in all spheres and fields.

If you are keen to note how most Americans behave, you will find that they follow the politeness guidelines that they were in schools and at home by their parents and guardians. For this reason, most of them will have easier time when interacting with their family members, work colleagues, friends and customers in their businesses. You need to know that your well-mannered actions will determine how long you maintain clients in your business.

Most of the people do not understand the value of greetings. However, passing a good morning, good afternoon or good evening message to people whenever you meet them is a very courteous behavior. You can either say it by word of mouth or use a handshake. Ensure that you use the right handshake that is neither too firm nor too prolonged depending on the social status of your partner.

Another desirable behavior is that of being a good listener. Most of the people do not understand that they should speak less but listen more. Whenever you meet a friend, you should be ready to listen to them instead of being the one always talking. Your partner might feel inferior and unappreciated if you do not take time to listen to their side of the story.

When you use courteous words, for instance, thank you is imperative. When someone does something that for you, it is important that you appreciate. In fact, the act of acknowledging someone does not cost you anything. However, it will earn you respect in the community.

Courteous people will always congratulate or appreciate others for their achievements. Where possible, the appreciation you give should be genuine and without envious feelings or anger. Appreciating other people when they get new jobs, promotions, businesses, hairstyles, nice family and get married among other things is something that Americans take seriously.

Also, you should be respectful in everything that you do in your life. If you are a superior anywhere, you should not despise your juniors. You should hold them with dignity so that they can also respect you. You should also respect members of your family and colleagues.

Finally, you will observe the Americans and notice that they immediately apologize for their mistakes. More than this, they will also apologize for your mistakes as well. You will not find them defending the mistakes they committed but will quickly acknowledge them and apologize. If you wrong them, they will feel sorry about it even before you have apologized. This is the culture you should cultivate in your children, family members, friends and in you as well.
