You would want to be aware of the many things that you need to do when you're on the road too. There are certain things that you are going to need to observe when driving. Remember, you cannot just go ahead and be reckless. You wouldn't want to endanger anyone or yourself in the process. Ensuring that you follow proper New York traffic regulations is very important.

Never make the mistake of drinking and then driving. A lot of drivers have gone that route before and only ended up being involved in accidents while on the road. This is the golden rule in driving that people should never really ignore. It can save a lot of lives. Besides, this is a punishable crime and you can even end up behind bars if caught drunk while behind the wheels.

Always wear a seat belt. Many drivers tend to take this for granted and they forget the fact that this can actually save their lives considerably. Research has shown that the risk of people getting involved in a fatal injury is reduced by 50% whenever the seat belt is being worn. It is also very effective towards preventing people from getting thrown through the windshield if the car gets involved in a collision.

Maintaining safe distance from the car ahead of to you is another good practice that you should consider too. The reason for this is because there is a chance that the driver ahead might actually end up making sudden stop or turn. One needs to have ample time to react to situations like these. Otherwise, there is a good chance that a collision might occur. The three second rule applies here.

Avoid from having any kind of distraction as you drive the car around. Things like cell phones, music players, even applying make-up, are only likely to cause you to lose your actual focus and attention on the road. You cannot have that. When you are not focused on the road, you react three times slower to whatever is happening, thus, increasing risks for accidents.

Never run a red light. One of the most common reasons why accidents happen on the road is when people run a stop. You take that risk of actually colliding into another car that might either turn in front or pull out right into the path that you are heading for. You are likely to injure pedestrians that walk into the crosswalk too. Always wait for the signal to go green before you go.

It is always best practice that you get your vehicle checked on a regular basis too. If you want assurance that you won't have to be dealing with road issues like breakdowns, then get the unit serviced on regular basis. Get it taken to your reliable mechanic so problems will be determined early on and then properly corrected.
