Brew a cup of green tea. Although it's a fact that there's stimulating caffeine present in green tea, it can actually promote relaxation of your mind and body. Drink chamomile tea. Worry not if you cannot stand having green tea because you're highly receptive to its caffeine content. What you need to do instead is brew a cup of chamomile tea before you leave. Since it's very good at calming not only your mind but your body, too, it's a well known solution for insomnia. If you're the one who is assigned to be behind the wheel, however, you should skip having chamomile tea.

Give lavender essential oil a try. According to experts in aromatherapy, lots of essential oils are capable of driving away those anxious thoughts you have. Lavender essential oil is one very good example. You can use it for attaining relaxation by placing a few drops of it to a tissue paper or handkerchief, and then take it close to your nose.

Turn your back on alcohol. It may seem like having a shot of tequila or vodka can be beneficial but the fact is it can actually make matters worse, experts say. While totally sedating, alcohol can keep you from having a restful sleep. It's no secret among anxious people that lack of good quality sleep can make it so much easier for them to encounter attacks. So before traveling, refrain from reaching for an alcoholic beverage.

Have a gentle form of workout. Eliminating too much adrenaline in the body can work to your advantage. A simple yet effective way to do that is by working out gently. No, you don't have to step foot inside the gym. Taking a walk for a few minutes is good enough to make those excessive amounts of adrenaline get used up.

Bring something that can distract you. Before leaving, see to it that you put something in your bag that can keep you from focusing on your anxious thoughts. Bringing a pair of nice headphones and a fully charged pocket music player is a great example. Have a nice novel within your easy reach. Drop by the newsstand and grab the latest issues of some entertaining magazines. Just about anything that can keep your mind busy with something is perfect.

Meet with a mental health expert. If your anxiety is meddling with your day in all sorts of ways, consider seeing a therapist. Being treated properly can keep at bay complications that can rob you of a normal life, or even have them reversed just in case they're already around.
